The trucking industry is an anytime operation with tight deadlines that puts many truck drivers under pressure and makes them struggle to get enough sleep. Since numerous studies state that sleep plays a vital role in both mental and physical health of people, it is important for those truck drivers to get enough sleep if they want to have safe journey and high-quality work. To be specific, here are 2 main important factors of getting enough sleep to truck drivers.

Sleep influences mental health

Studies show that sleep affects the brain. Sleeping enough helps the brain work properly. The brain is preparing for the next day while people are sleeping. However, lacking sleep may negatively affect some parts of the brain. It not only slows down the reaction, but also causes depression, suicide, and risk-taking behavior. Thus, since truck drivers have to always be alert while driving to prevent unwanted accidents; they need enough sleep to help the brain work effectively in a long-haul.

Sleep influences physical health

The sleep is important to people’s physical health. Enough sleep will bring good health, and obviously in contrast, not enough sleep in a long time will also increase the risks of many health problems such as heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke. As truck drivers, their jobs might pop up any time in a day like midnight, or early morning, which may cause ongoing sleep deficiency. As a consequence, their health will be damaged overtime. Therefore, truck drivers need to make sure they have enough sleep in order to minimize health problems.

Tips for Truck Drivers to get enough sleep:

  • Choose quiet place to sleep to prevent any noise distraction.
  • Should not eat too much before sleep to get well sleep
  • Organize work schedule and try to sleep in spare time.
